High-School Rapper finding inspiration through meditation

by KnowingKorea

“My name is Kim Ha-on, I’m a traveller searching for the truth to create my own art. My hobby is meditation; I use it to empty my mind. We receive a lot of stimuli during our daily lives… through our eyes, our ears… If you let these things accumulate within you, you lose your intuition, and your edge. Meditating in times like this can help you to regain this intuition, and I feel it helps inspiration come to me”

When 17-year old Ha-on Kim first walked onto the stage of ‘High School Rapper 2’, the second season of a hip-hop survival show for high school students akin to ‘Show Me The Money’ and ‘Unpretty Rapstar’, he gave off no particular charm or sign of ability. Indeed, as he delivered the above monotonous and somewhat preachy self-introduction he elicited a few snickers and comments from both judges and his fellow contestants.

However, as soon as he opened his mouth to rap he blew all these doubters away, as he mused on life and why people can never be happy. His deep lyrics and rhythm greatly impressed everybody watching both at home and on the show, with fellow contestants commenting on the goosebumps his rap verse gave them, and praising how cool he looked.
