Local Bakery Surviving in Seoul

by KnowingKorea

As of the end of 2017, there are approximately 4,000 bakery shops open in Seoul, one quarter of which are franchises of the two major bakery company. Paris Baguette has 758 stores (including a few company operating shops), and Tour les Jours has 257 stores (including a few company operating shops). Out of the rest three quarters, take away minor franchises, bakeries in hypermarkets, and other company-run stores, then the result shows a small portion of independent local bakery shops. Most of these local bakeries are located in the back alleys and local markets. Of course there are very successful ones with long history and specialty products, becoming a new interest for tourists.
