Four times population enjoyed cinema in 2017

The 2017 cumulative cinema audiences in Korea reached some 220 million, more than four time the nation’s whole population. According to the data from Korea Film Council, last year’s total number of cinema audiences is 219.87 million, an increase by 2.8 million form the previous year. Presently in Korea there are 495 cinemas with 2,857 screens, with more than two fifths concentrated in the Seoul-Gyeonggi metropolitan area. There are 96 cinemas with 580 screens in Seoul, and 108 cinemas with 654 screens in Gyeonggi-do.
