Yakhyeon Catholic Church, Korea’s First Western-Style Church
by KnowingKorea
Yakhyeon Catholic Church is located in a less crowded part of Seoul and thus less known than the famous Myeongdong Cathedral, but it is Korea’s first church built in modern brick construction, completed in 1892. Its Gothic style architecture features a cruciform construction with low arched windows and a pointed-arch entrance gate. The church has been featured in several K-dramas including ‘Bread, Love and Dreams’ and ‘Iris,’ making it a tourist attraction, as well as a popular venue for wedding.
